Rainbow

Looked out the window and saw a rainbow. Thought I better record the event.

Celebration

Saw Harold Pinter’s play ‘Celebration’ on the TV, and loved the line about all mother’s want to make love to their sons, very funny. All the more so for when thanks to Red Pepper magazine which was supported by Pinter I happened to go back to his place with everyone else and I had the cheek to call my mother from his kitchen. Talking of Red Pepper it also makes my laugh now to think that Hilary used to moan that Harold P would complain if his articles were edited in any way. The cheek of the man, who does he think he is?! OK, enough I’m off to work, it’s the last day of February.

Social Media Survey for Corporate Communicators!

Just received the link to the survey plus free report from Daniel Gregory at Melcrum, which looks of interest:

“This survey will generate some industry-wide benchmarks and insight on the current use of social media in corporate communications and takes just five minutes to complete.

“All participants will be able to download our free short report, The Quick-Start Guide to Social Media for Internal Communicators at the end of the survey.” Hope to be able to share the results asap, social media in action.

Hot Fuzz

Saw Hot Fuzz last night – enjoyable and funny. Bit spooky for me remembering my time as a local journalist, and all the stories it brought back from the Diss Express, including the Harleston Two case with the kidnap and campaign to free the guys.

DIY dude

Went to my local HSS hire shop today, which was a good move as they knew the right power drill to cut through the concrete walls – I feel a proper geezer. Then when I returned with the drill someone had kindly left a note on my bike which I had I thought amusingly locked to the next-door church, which read ‘Idiot Bike’. Thanks, really.

P2P as an alternative to Web 2.0

For techi’s P2P means peer-to-peer, but why not reuse it in the Web 2.0 context to mean person2person (as in b2b or b2c)?

Amazingly cool (and short!) video about the power of XML

Boy Soldiers

Saw the Daily Show interview with the guy who wrote his experience as a boy soldier in Sierra Leone last night. Very interesting how he said the toughest part was not becomign a boy soldier in a chaotic environment as that offered order, but learning how to become human again after the war. Reminded me of the tough problems of gang culture with the shootings in south London. Don’t imagine many authority figures are going to be thinkign along those lines though as central to the strategy to defeat gung crime, ey?

Hospitals pick hi-tech clipboard?

This electronic clipboard looks interesting:

“An electronic clipboard that has the potential to save lives has been unveiled. It is hoped the device – known as a mobile clinical assistant (MCA) – will cut the time doctors and nurses spend on paper work.

“It could also improve patient safety and speed up treatment times. The portable device lets clinicians access patient records at the bedside, write notes and order essential tests in real-time. One senior doctor described it as one of the “most exciting developments in my 25 years in medicine”.” (Maybe a good ‘interface’ for a shift handover system?)

Backfill

“Backfill/ing” – the practice of amending a weblog by going back into the past and adding posts previous to when the blog was launched. Useful if you’re looking to fake it with a marketing-led blog I guess?

An example of the functional use of backfilling for job sites here.
