Brazil gets tough on crime, and the causes of crime

“Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has announced a plan costing over $3bn aimed at tackling the high levels of crime in the country’s cities. The plan will focus on improving the quality of policing and social programmes and education.” Hmm, something to share with the British Government?

My Success

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
-Pablo Picasso

One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.
Friedrich Nietzsche

So the solution is to know how to keep the ‘chaos’ alive to remain an artist. I  believe I have succeeded!

30th anniversaries

In honor of the King’s death a little anecdote. Back in 1998 hooked up with Elvis fan Amy Thacker when in Memphis for the BBC to cover the 30th anniversary of MLK’s death. It turned out she was such a fan she’d landed a cool job as one of the attendants – so that was my great excuse to visit Graceland, saying a casual “hi” to Amy on the way round. Later Amy lost her job after she fell out with the ‘Corporation’. Not all is lost, as Google Maps tells me Amy now lives off Elvis Presley Boulevard.

The cold hard facts

Interesting blog post on Jack Mason’s HealthNex on the quality of the US healthcare system:

One of the problems with our healthcare quandary is that some folks feel that these sorts of reports or data aren’t empirical, objective realities, but some kind of subtle attack or denigration of America. To suggest that America is wanting on a front as important as healthcare may seem to some like an almost unpatriotic act, rather than just the cold hard facts.”

Digg for radiologists?

It occurs to me that a Digg/Stumbleupon for radiologists could work in the near future, allowing professionals to bookmark and share their favourite stories, images etc. Watch this space.
