UK TV History’s Infamous Assassinations

Saw the interesting documentary on the assassination of MLK on UK TV History last night, with some new details about James Earl Ray I hadn’t appreciated before such as where he went after the shooting. The programme itself was pretty much sticking to the official line, and didn’t touch on any real suggestions that Ray was not the only guy involved. But hey, there you go.

It’s a neat coincidence that Ray was alive to witness the 30th anniversary of King’s death, dying later in April 1998. It’s a shame the BBC, which I set up the opportunity to cover the anniversary, in effect turned that opportunity down even though they sent someone along with me to cover it thanks to Shaun’s help. Oh well, better luck next time.

Patient Safety Congress 2008

The Patient Safety Congress 2008 looks interesting; wonder if they’ll be anything on shift handover systems? A quick use of the search pulled up a few items, though nothing 100% specific? Maybe I missed it in the rush, though.

This important event scheduled for 22nd – 23rd May 2008, ExCeL London, featuring presentations from policy leaders and the leading figures in the patient safety movement, represents a call to action for everyone in the NHS to take work around patient safety to the next level.”

New company

Having decided to form my own company for practical reasons, I thought for at least 5 minutes for a suitable name before alighting on ‘Plectic‘. Pending approval by Companies House, of course.

PS: Thanks Murray!

Ownership, ownership, ownership

It’s axiomatic in capitalist economics and its critics that ownership is pivotal. But is this really the case to quite the same degree today when you consider the transactional nature of money? Don’t ask me, I’m no expert.

Black mental health user on Channel 4

In light of the fact I will be doing video work in Chicago soon it prompted me to remember earlier success when working at Mental Health Media on the Headlines project in getting Les Bailey on to Channel 4′s Weekly Planet discussion programme to talk about the issues he faced as a black mental health user. Admittedly that was ten years ago now, so I’m a bit rusty.

IBM jam — the insider’s view

Hooking up with someone who recently worked for IBM I asked how the internal IBM innovation jam went (‘WORLD JAM’). Apparently the drive for innovation meant there was more than one collaborative jam discussion, with the US leading Europe. That sounds like wasteful overlap, but bearing in mind IBM’s expertise in complexity maybe smarter than it first appears? In the overlap of such collaborations is perhaps intentional to in a self-organised kinda way to suggest where the answers lay?
