Yes, when I heard that Prince William had been spurned by an English babe when he invited her back to his barracks I felt it was close to treason, but joking aside I thought he should follow my lead and swop English ladies for Brazilians. And then yesterday on the way back from the Dylan concert my wish came true.
Though Ana Ferreira is a bit too ‘goofy’ for me, thanks. But then she is from the North East of Brazil, right?!
I’m reliably told that by traditional people from the North East are said to call people, almost anybody, “bichim”, which I guess is derived from bichinho (little animal or pet). However, the “nordestina” (women of the Northeast) are said to be valiant and very jealous, ready to use the peixeira (fish knife) to cut off certain parts of a man that messes with them. Lucky Ana didn’t have her fish knife on her.![]()
Great story on Medicexchange on protests against the use of facilities to treat horses also used to treat obese people (edited version below):
“Rio de Janeiro hospitals have been sending obese people to share medical test equipment with horses at the local race track, drawing complaints from activists who say the practice is humiliating.
“When people weigh more than the standard equipment can support they have to be directed to the Jockey Club, which is the only place in Rio where they have the appropriate equipment,” a spokeswoman for the Rio state health secretariat said on Wednesday.
“Rosimere Lima da Silva, head of the Group for Salvaging Self-Esteem and Citizenship of the Obese (Graco), said many patients feel embarrassed to go there.
“The obese patients already suffer from a lot of prejudice and having to be treated where animals are is not helping their self-esteem. Many simply refuse to go,” she said.”

Just found the Brazilian negroblue website with lots of great funky black-power inspired designs. Of course I think the inside story on this is pretty funky too.

One of the papers had a headline today ‘Conspiracy or coincidence’ on the timing of the various news (Diana report; police quiz Blair; Saudi SFO investigation dropped). As if people have any clue!
As to Diana remember the obscure Brazilian connection (she was friend of the Brazilian ambassador and wife, L

Yo it’s the Beach Soccer World Cup final (11am Brazil time). Yesterday Uruguay beat France on penalty shoot out to make it to the final today! Sorry Eric Cantona, but no luck this time. So its Brazil (who beat Portugal) vz Uruguary – er, I wonder who’s gonna win. Looks like a dead cert for Brazil.
Damned if I can find anyone broadcasting the tournament in the UK. Thanks God for the internet! Check out the 2006 World Cup video clips of the best goals for example.
***News Flash*** Brazil beat Uruguay
“Brazil scored two goals in the final period to beat Uruguay 4-1 Sunday and win FIFA’s Beach Soccer World Cup.
“Buru, Duda, Benjamin and Sidney scored a goal each for the hosts, who clinched their 10th beach soccer title. Brazil was held to third place in FIFA’s inaugural tournament last year on Copacabana beach.
“Brazil won all six of its matches en route to this year’s title, its first since 2004.
“Buru scored first in the first period, while Uruguay equalized in the second with a goal by Ricar. Brazil retook the lead still in the second when Benjamin scored, and Duda and Sidney sealed the victory in front of nearly 7,000 fans with goals in the third period.” (IHT)
